GLADSTONE
AUSTRALIA
The
port of Gladstone is impressive - even by world standards. Strategically
located as a natural distribution point for the world- wide shipment
of the considerable resources of Central Queensland, this busy port
is already the largest multicargo port in Australia.
The
Gladstone Port Authority at the forefront in planning and co-ordination
of
future development, has already reclaimed large areas of land for
the establishment of port industries and services.
The
adjacent Gladstone Marina has been constructed to international standard
as an anchorage for up to 200 pleasure craft and as the departure
terminal for visits to The Great
Barrier Reef.
The
Gladstone Marina is also the departure point for the large Charter
Boat fleet based in Gladstone. If lucky, visitors can catch a glimpse
of the harbours resident dolphins. Charters include weekend trips
or can be up to seven days duration for a voyage to the mighty
Swains Reef with the catch filleted and frozen on board. Charter
vessels
are
equipped to cater for divers and underwater photographers, and
sightseers.
Family
barbecue facilities, restaurant and boardwalk shops make the Gladstone
Marina and ideal family recreational facility.
The
sound shell and surrounding lawn provide a picture- perfect setting
to showcase entertainment - from the fully staged shows
of Harbour
Festival to concerts performed by school children.
